Defective Products
Defective products fall under the area of
personal injury law known as product liability. Manufacturers have a
legal responsibility to make sure that their products, when used in
the intended manner, do not harm users. This legal responsibility is
a broad one, covering wholesalers, retailers, designers and anyone
else involved with the sale of consumer products. The law goes a long way in protecting product
users. It imposes
strict liability on those who make or sell defective products. It
requires that makers and sellers of products take reasonable steps
to protect consumers. This includes providing sufficient warnings of
potential
hazards which accompany certain products as well as ensuring that
defective or malfunctioning parts are not used in the making of a
product.

There are at least three types of
product defects which can cause injury or harm to those who use
them: design defects, manufacturing errors or marketing
misrepresentation. Depending on the stage the problem occurs, more
than one party (designer, manufacturer, wholesaler, retailer,
advertiser, etc.) may be held legally liable to the injured party.
As a general rule, it is wise to seek legal advice
immediately after you suspect you’ve been injured as a result of
someone’s negligence, whether it’s
medical malpractice, a
car
accident, a slip and fall, a
dog bite, lead poisoning, a
defective
product, a work injury or
other types of cases.
